SnowApp – Climate service prototype co-designed for ski resorts in Northern Finland (H2020 Blue-Action project)

The Arctic Centre of the University of Lapland, and Ruka Ski Resort are co-designing a climate service for winter tourism in Northern Finland within the Blue-Action Project. The prototype of this service offers a seasonal forecast of snowmaking conditions. We have shown that 4 weeks forecasts are likely to be useful as a decision-support tool for the ski resort management. SnowApp is particularly useful in critical conditions in the early skiing season, and for anticipating exceptionally warm periods exceeding the 3-4 days weather forecast. The prototype, designed with a real end-user, will also be made available for new adopters within the ski industry, and others, in Finland and abroad.
