The PROSNOW project “Provision of a prediction system allowing for management and optimization of snow in Alpine ski resorts” has been funded within the Horizon 2020 “Societal Challenge 5” framework under the Call SC5-01-2016-2017 “Exploiting the added value of climate services”. During its lifetime from September 1st, 2017 to August 31st, 2020, PROSNOW has contributed to the development of Climate Services in Europe. It designed and implemented a user-facing tool providing forecasts of meteorological and snow conditions on ski slopes, spanning the range of weather forecasts (days to weeks) to seasonal forecast, providing decision-making support to optimize in real time snow management in ski resorts. This presentation will provide a synthesis of the scope and achievements of PROSNOW, including scientific results and the upcoming exploitation of the PROSNOW results to address the ski tourism market in the European Alps starting in the winter 2020-2021.
The PROSNOW service is primarily accessible to e.g. ski resorts managers as user facing tool, providing real time visualization of past, current and future meteorological and snow conditions, at the scale of days to weeks. This presentation will provide a tour of the main features of the PROSNOW user facing tool, based on its implementation in PROSNOW pilot ski resorts.
A showcase of the PROSNOW user facing tool is freely accessible at this address: http://showcase.prosnow.org/
