The first PROSNOW factsheet, summing up the results of a market survey among 44 Alpine ski resorts, is now available on the PROSNOW website. The topics addressed by the survey include the ski areas’ snow management practices and costs, their need for, interest in, and assessment of a forecasting service like PROSNOW and – to a smaller extent – their ability and willingness to pay for such a service. The survey revealed that snow management can account for a considerable fraction of a ski area’s total operating costs (5%-40% in the responding ski areas). The majority of survey participants showed interest in a forecasting service like PROSNOW and regarded it important and useful for snow management, particularly for optimizing water and electricity use. Further areas of application, for which respondents expect PROSNOW to be of use, include snowmaking decisions for the upcoming hours and days and the avoidance of overproduction of snow. Got curious?
